The Global Climate Controversy
In this section, articles about the opinions of climate change will be investigated, looking at what specific people know, the beliefs of these people, and these peoples' values. All articles are linked to the title of the section discussing them.
No Need to Panic About Global Warming - Wall Street Journal
This article evaluates the perspective of members of the scientific community that believe that climate change is not real. Many of the scientists that provide the evidence for this article stand behind the fact that mean global temperatures have not been rising over the past decade - or at least, they have not risen at the rate of the predictions given by the International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) since issuing climate change projections 25 years ago. They also believe that carbon dioxide is not a pollutant, helping plants thrive better and helping them grow more.
These scientists believe that climate change provides reason for academic studying and the growth of government bureaucracies. They believe that alarming the world about climate change creates an excuse to sink deeper into taxpayer dollars, and helps so-called "charitable" foundations that give a promise of changing the climate in ways that will save our planet. They also believe that there is a stigma against people that speak up about the other side of the climate change controversy. These scientists say that there are many more scientists that refute climate change today, however they are afraid to provide their inputs to the scientific community in fear that they will be scrutinized.
The scientists who back this article believe that they are advocating for the right cause, hoping to prevent the further manipulation of society to give funds and create infrastructure on something that is not happening. They also believe that there should be equal stances for both sides of the controversy. Noble Prize-winning physicist Ivar Giaever saying he resigned from the American Physical Society, disagreeing with the idea that there can be discussion on theorhetical circumstances in physics (such as whether the mass of a proton changes over time), but evidence behind climate change is "incontrovertible." This leads me to believe that the scientists involved in this article have values that have good intentions, wishing for the freedom of thought from other sides of the argument for climate change and hoping to stop what they believe is manipulation of society for monetary purposes.

Global warming is a big fat lie and the science behind it is fake: John Coleman - Vamien McKalin, Tech Times
This article talks about John Coleman, a co-founder of the Weather Channel, and his statements about climate change. John Coleman claims that there is no significant evidence that global warming is real and that the entire idea of climate change has become, "a political tool that is not backed by scientific evidence." Coleman claims many things that refute the idea of climate change. He thinks that sea levels are not rising substantially, ice sheets are increasing in mass, and that heat waves are diminishing. He also believes that there has been no significant man-made warming in the present, and there has never been in the past and never will be any in the future. Lastly, he has said that "efforts to prove the theory that carbon dioxide is a significant greenhouse gas and pollutant causing significant warming or weather effects have failed."
John Coleman says that he has based most of his views off of the Nongovernmental International Panel on Climate Change (NIPCC), which offers a second, individual opinion on climate change based off the fact that they are not a governmental organization and that "its members are not predisposed to believe climate change is caused by human greenhouse gas emissions." John Coleman seems to believe that global warming and the entire idea of climate change is a hoax.
John Coleman seems to believe that the information backing his opinions is valid and truthful, with him going against the generally accepted idea on climate change an advocating that the entire idea of climate change is a lie. His values seem to lie in revealing the truth to people and being honest about the reality of our climate situation.

10,883 out of 10,885 scientific articles agree: Global warming is happening, and humans are to blame - Lindsay Abrams, Salon
This article talks about how the majority of scientific articles published in 2013 agree that climate change is occurring, with human factors playing a role in the warming of our climate. A geochemist named James Lawrence Powell went through every climate-based study in a peer reviewed scientific journal, and found that out of the 10,885 articles that he examined, only 2 of them refuted climate change. Powell himself has opinions on why the climate change controversy even exists, stating that these people do not have the evidence to back up their claims. From the articles he had gone over, he concludes that there is a large amount of scientific evidence in favour of anthropogenic global warming, and no convincing evidence against it. He also claims that, "those who deny anthropogenic global warming have no alternative theory to explain the observed rise in atmospheric CO2 and global temperature."
James Lawrence Powell believes that the debate against climate change is merely an illusion, magnified by uninformed individuals and misguided media with questionable sources. He believes that climate change in itself is real, and it is backed by almost all of the scientific community. His values, like many of the other subjects mentioned above, are set in providing the truth and evidence for his claims. He attempts to try and convey the message that it is not climate change that is the hoax. Instead, it is the climate change controversy that is a hoax, being fuelled by the uninformed.

Three reasons why climate change is real, and humans are causing it -David Waltham, The Guardian
This article talks about how climate change is real from the perspective of someone that is not part of the scientific community. However, this person (named David Waltham)has still done research on climate change itself, and has formulated his own opinion on climate change based on his own research. As the title suggest, he states three facts that support evidence of climate change being real, with them being that warmer climates millions of years ago are related to higher carbon dioxide levels, that the relation between carbon dioxide and mean atmospheric conditions are related and can affect Earth even today, and that the counterarguments for climate change are just unconvincing in themselves.
David Waltham, the writer of this article, seems to believe that climate change exists through what appears to be his own personal research. Waltham believes that the political and technical problems behind climate change are more complex than the science behind it will ever be, but that we should not simply "stick our heads in the sand" due to this misunderstanding. As an article writer, his values seem to be focused towards provide accurate information to the public through his writing.
